The recent and unexpected challenges of Covid-19 has caused all of us to pause, take a deep breath and develop new strategies in order to provide students with continued quality dance art education experiences.

The Carr Center is delighted to invite young dancers to participate in this year’s Debbie Allen Dance Academy Summer Intensive Virtual Dance Class. The Intensive runs June 29th to July 18th! While we cannot offer our annual Dance and Musical Theatre at our Detroit education home, the Detroit School of Arts, this exciting program is available now available on line!

ALL CLASSES WILL BE AVAILABLE LIVE AND ON DEMAND!

Students from across the country will participate in this summer’s program. Dancers ages 8 years and up will sharpen their dance technique with a rigorous 3-week program that offers up to 20 classes a week. Classes are held each day beginning at 12 Noon EDT and run until 5:00 p.m. Classes are held Monday – Saturday.

Dancers will have the opportunity to take classes in the following techniques: Ballet, Modern, Tap, Hip-Hop, Dunham, Flamenco, Jazz, Repertory Workshops Master Classes and ... New this year, Musical Theatre classes will be taught by Ms. Debbie Allen herself!

Levels Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced. Again this summer students will be taught by some of the most outstanding masters in the world from the Bolshoi, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Broadway, So You Think You Can Dance, Savion Glover, Jason Samuel Smith, Twitch, Marguerite Derrick, Syncopated Ladies, Ms. Allen and more.

If you have participated in one of the Carr Center’s prior Summer Intensives there is no need to audition. You will automatically be assigned to your previous technical level. Level adjustments will be made on the first day of classes. Students participating in this year’s intensive will represent dancers from across the nation, not just the region and therefore the caliber of dancers and instruction will be quite high.

Tuition for the three week class is $350.00 plus $25.00 non refundable administration fee.
Tuition for the the one week class is $150 plus $25.00 non refundable administration fee.

Information on limited partial scholarship support will be available upon after registration.

New students will be asked to submit a short (1 ½ minute) video for Ms. Allen’s personal review and placement evaluation.

If you have already paid an audition registration fee for the 2020 Intensive, that payment will be deducted from this year’s final payment. Information and details regarding limited partial scholarship opportunities will be available following registration.
